Quality Based Pricing Introduced by YPN
Finally, Yahoo Publisher Network launched what was most speculated, the smart pricing feature for Yahoo Publisher Network partners and Yahoo Search Marketing advertisers.
Here is the excerpt from launch email
In an ongoing effort to strengthen our Sponsored Search and Content Match marketplaces, Yahoo! will be introducing a new traffic quality feature called “quality-based pricing”. This feature is rolling out beginning today and we plan to continue to expand it over time.
Quality-based pricing will give us the ability to price traffic commensurate with the value that advertisers receive from each traffic source. We recognize that this approach may have an impact on how you operate your business, and as a valued Yahoo! publisher we wanted to let you know about this new feature, as you may notice fluctuations in your Yahoo! Publisher Network earnings.
Quality-based pricing reinforces our overall commitment to deliver long-term success for our distribution partners, a high-quality experience for users and high-value traffic to our advertisers. We are excited about this initiative, and plan to work closely with you as we roll out these features across our network.
Sincerely,
The Yahoo! Publisher Network Team

YPN Check Error - State Unknown
If you ever see ‘Check Error-Status Unknown’ in your YPN, DO NOT Panic. It simply means that Yahoo has sent out your check and its on your way.
This has been point of repeated discussion (and worry) in almost all forums related to YPN that I thought I will put it on my blog for once. Its not that Yahoo doesn’t know about this problem, but probably they are too busy fixing others that this one doesn’t take any priority.

Yahoo YPN Improvements by this spring
Yahoo YPN (program similar to Google AdSense) is planning to roll out major feature release this spring. This includes new features like direct deposits into the partners bank account (as of now Yahoo sends out checks through normal post), search box placement.
One of major update will be introduction of contextual match engine. Publishers have been complaining about lack of relevant ads from Yahoo YPN. Yahoo introduced category targeting but that doesn’t really address the contextual relevancy problem. As per common opinion the CTR of Yahoo YPN ads is low because of poor ads relevancy resulting into loss of revenues by publishers.
Yahoo also plans to expand YPN program to international publishers in spring. The YPN is so far available to only US publishers.

Yahoo YPN Adlinks - trick
Simulating Yahoo YPN ad link units similar to AdSense ad-links
A simple trick with ad colors can be used to simulate the AdSense ad links in Yahoo YPN program. If your site has ad space fitting for adlink type ads, this can be very useful. Here is the example
YPN adlinks can be achieved by tweaking the color of ad elements, i.e. set the ad text and URL colors same as your ad background color. This way only ad URL will be visible giving look like adlinks. You can choose to show URL title or actual URL.
Note that this is workaround to get the effect of adlinks unit. Yahoo doesn’t have adlinks as ad type. The ad unit will still take the complete space and users will see empty space, but with proper ad placement it can be tackled.

AdSense or Yahoo YPN on Joomla and Mambo
Joomla and Mambo are the coolest open source content management systems around now. Both of these systems comes with default component and module for banner management, however features provided by this component are very basic. The banner module shows the banners at the specific location configured from admin console. You can setup multiple banners and these banners (you can use it for AdSense or ypn ) are shown in rotation.
However with default banner module major deficiency is having more than one banner on the site. Its said that there is way to copy the banner module and be able to have more than one banner being displayed on site. Still its near impossible to specify particular AdSense or ypn ad at specific banner.

Yahoo YPN revenue sharing
Yahoo YPN is just like google adsense and right now is in beta version as yahoo is testing out its services.
What is most striking factor in beta is payouts, Yahoo YPN pays upto 200% more than adsense. With smart pricing in effect google adsense earnings for most publishers must have sinked to bottom earning them next to nothing.
One biggest disappointment for broader publisher community is that Yahoo YPN is in beta and is available to only few people and that too only in USA. So most of world publisher crowd is kept away from this high paying program as of now.
However, there is one solutions. YPN revenue sharing.
