Search Engineering vs Social Marketing

November 30, 2009 · Filed Under Search Engine Marketing, Search Engine Optimization · Comments Off

Lot has changed since rise of instant traffic generators like Digg, StumbledUpon came and then onwards Facebook/Twitter established as de-facto place for social marketing. With facebook/twitter came in the concept of Social Marketing and it really added whole new dimension to Internet Marketing. Marketers saw instant, huge ROI which smashed their wildest expectations. We saw incoming traffic from Facebook/Twitter reach heights beyond regular traffic from search engines.

However important factor which still keeps Search Engine Marketing in run is consistency. In a longer run your traffic from Search Engine will still be more than your one day wonder from Facebook/Twitter. So it still matters to be in top ten results on Google – marketers know this and as a result Google Adwords is raking in cash for Google even after Facebook use reached its peak.

SEOMoz – your survey application is broken

January 29, 2008 · Filed Under Search Engine Optimization, Web Master Talk · Comment

I generally avoid taking any surveys and I should have really stuck to that, but somehow email from SEOMoz (or chance of winning iphone?) today convinced me to take their so called ‘SEO Industry Survey’. So what follows is complete waste of time – the survey has around 51 question and when I am through to 35th – SEOMoz survey application breaks apart and kept me showing ‘Recording your answer – please be patient’ message for more than 20 minutes now – effectively wasting all the time taken to reach upto 35 questions.

What the heck SEOMoz – I was hoping better from you.

AdSense or Yahoo YPN on Joomla and Mambo

November 26, 2005 · Filed Under Adsense and YPN, Joomla and Mambo · Comment

Joomla and Mambo are the coolest open source content management systems around now. Both of these systems comes with default component and module for banner management, however features provided by this component are very basic. The banner module shows the banners at the specific location configured from admin console. You can setup multiple banners and these banners (you can use it for AdSense or ypn ) are shown in rotation.

However with default banner module major deficiency is having more than one banner on the site. Its said that there is way to copy the banner module and be able to have more than one banner being displayed on site. Still its near impossible to specify particular AdSense or ypn ad at specific banner.

Mambo and Joomla are best in SEO

November 13, 2005 · Filed Under Joomla and Mambo, Web Master Talk · Comment

I have personally tried various open source software available for CMS and/or web publishing including wordpress, mambo, joomla, phpbb (and other forums) and I have to conclude to myself that best SEO services are offered by Mambo and Joomla

However, one must note that Mambo and Joomla by default doesn’t have great SEO features, and it is not even enabled by default. The basic SEO feature in Mambo and Joomla just organizes the URL friendlier for search engine to gulp, but doesn’t give any keyword benefit from content. When default SEO is turned on in Mambo or Joomla, the URL of content page looks more like www.seodon.com/section/cat/id.
